The fall of Avaris opens the New Kingdom

Around 1550 BC the Theban king Ahmose I captured Avaris, the Hyksos capital, and after a long siege their stronghold of Sharuhen in Canaan. Egypt was reunited; Ahmose founded the 18th Dynasty, and the New Kingdom became the age of Egyptian empire in Asia and Nubia.
