Samudragupta's pillar inscription
An Ashokan pillar records the Gupta conquests
Around 350 the court poet Harishena carved a eulogy of Samudragupta on a pillar erected long before by Emperor Ashoka. It lists the kings he subdued from the Himalayas to the south of India and remains the main source on the rise of the Gupta Empire.
