The royal kurgan of Arzhan in Tuva
One of the oldest Scythian burials, with horses and gold
The Arzhan kurgans in Tuva are among the earliest monuments of the Scythian world, built around the 9th–8th centuries BC, before those by the Black Sea. Chiefs were buried with horses, weapons and gold ornaments in the 'animal style', which may have originated here.
