Turks and Persians crush the Hephthalites
The Hephthalite empire vanishes, carved up by the victors
Around 557 the Turks of Istämi Khagan, allied with Shah Khosrow I, defeated the Hephthalites near Bukhara. The lands north of the Amu Darya went to the Turks and those to the south to the Sasanians, while Hephthalite principalities survived only in Tokharistan and Gandhara.
