Nobatia turns Christian
Nubia turns Christian, and stays so for almost a thousand years
The missionary Julian, sent by Empress Theodora, baptised the king of the Nubian state of Nobatia. The neighbouring kingdoms of Makuria and Alodia followed. Christian Nubia lasted almost a thousand years; among its legacies are the frescoes of Faras cathedral, rescued before the Aswan Dam reservoir flooded the site.
