The Denisovans
A whole human species found from a little finger bone

In 2008 a little-finger bone of a girl who lived tens of thousands of years ago was found in Denisova Cave in the Altai; in 2010 its DNA revealed an unknown branch of humans related to Neanderthals. Denisovans ranged across Asia, and their genes live on: they make up several percent of the genome of Papuans.
