Edict of Thessalonica
Nicene Christianity becomes the faith of the Empire
On 27 February 380 the emperors Theodosius I, Gratian and Valentinian II ordered all their subjects to profess the faith of the Nicene Creed. Arians and other dissenters were declared heretics, and in 391–392 Theodosius banned pagan sacrifice as well.
