The end of Ur III, mourned in the Lament for Ur

Around 2004 BC the Elamites captured Ur and led away Ibbi-Sin, the last king of the Third Dynasty. The fall of the capital is mourned in the Sumerian Lament for Ur, and power in Mesopotamia passed to the cities of Isin and Larsa.
