Postumus founds the Gallic Empire
Gaul, Britain and Hispania break away from Rome for 14 years
On hearing that the Persians had captured Emperor Valerian, Postumus, governor of the Germanies, proclaimed himself emperor at Colonia Agrippina in 260. His realm, with its own senate and consuls, held the Rhine against Franks and Alamanni until Aurelian defeated Tetricus' army at Châlons in 274.
