Ginkaku-ji, the Silver Pavilion
The Silver Pavilion was never silver

Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimasa began this villa in imitation of his grandfather's Golden Pavilion. It was never covered in silver; the name "Silver Pavilion" was only coined in the Edo period, over a century later.
