Tan'gun founds Old Chosŏn (legend)
Son of a heavenly prince and a bear-woman, first Korean king

According to the 13th-century Samguk yusa, in 2333 BC Tan'gun, son of the heavenly prince Hwanung and a bear turned woman, founded the first Korean kingdom, Chosŏn. The historical state of Old Chosŏn is attested much later, but South Korea still marks National Foundation Day on 3 October.
