Ionian Revolt
Asian Greeks defy Persia and spark the Persian Wars
The Greek cities of Asia Minor, led by Miletus, rose against Persian rule; Athens and Eretria sent aid and the rebels burned Sardis. Persia crushed the revolt, sacking Miletus in 494 BC, and Athens' role gave Darius a reason to invade Greece.
