The Golden Man of the Issyk kurgan
A Saka warrior dressed in 4,000 pieces of gold
In 1969 Kemal Akishev's team opened the kurgan of a Saka chief near Almaty; his clothes and tall headdress were sewn with thousands of gold plaques. The grave also held a silver cup with a short inscription in an unknown script, the oldest text found in Kazakhstan.
