The Jebel Sahaba cemetery
One of the oldest wars, driven by a changing climate
In 1964 a cemetery near today's border of Egypt and Sudan yielded 61 skeletons, many with stone arrowheads still lodged in the bones. A 2021 reanalysis found not one massacre but repeated raids some 13,000 years ago, as groups fought over resources shrinking with the changing climate.
