From about 7200 to 4500 BC a village of single-room clay-block houses stood 30 km from today's Ashgabat, growing barley and wheat and keeping goats and sheep. It is the oldest known farming settlement in Central Asia and gave its name to the Neolithic of the Kopet Dag foothills.
