The kingdom of Dʿmt in northern Ethiopia
The first known state of the Ethiopian highlands, kin to Saba
Roughly in the 8th–6th centuries BC the kingdom of Dʿmt existed in present-day Eritrea and Tigray, probably centred at Yeha. Its temples and inscriptions closely resemble those of Saba in South Arabia; Dʿmt is seen as a forerunner of the Kingdom of Aksum.
