Humans on the Don before an Italian super-eruption

Twenty-six Palaeolithic sites line the right bank of the Don near Voronezh, the oldest more than 40,000 years old: some finds lie beneath ash from a super-eruption at Italy's Campi Flegrei about 39,000 years ago. The area also has a ring of mammoth bones and the 37,000-year-old genome of the man known as Kostenki 14.
