A Yuezhi chief builds an empire astride the Silk Road

Around AD 30 Kujula Kadphises united the five Yuezhi tribes settled in Bactria. His successors built an empire from the Amu Darya to the Ganges valley. The Kushans held key stretches of the Silk Road between Rome, Parthia, India and China; Gandharan art flourished, and Buddhism spread into Central Asia and China.
