Giant sloths outlive their mainland kin by millennia
Large ground sloths of the genus Megalocnus outlived their mainland relatives by thousands of years. According to the latest radiocarbon dates, they still lived on Cuba about 4,700 years ago, when Egypt was building its first pyramids.
