Luzia Woman
Brazil's oldest woman, rescued from a museum's ashes

The skeleton of a young woman who lived about 11,500 years ago was found in 1974 in the Lapa Vermelha cave near Belo Horizonte and named Luzia, after the famous Lucy. Her skull was feared lost when Brazil's National Museum burned in 2018, but six weeks later most of her remains were recovered from the debris.
