The Misliya jawbone
Our species left Africa far earlier than once thought

In a collapsed cave on Mount Carmel researchers found a Homo sapiens upper jaw, teeth still in place, about 185,000 years old. It is one of the two oldest finds of our species outside Africa, showing that people ventured out in waves long before the main dispersal 70,000–50,000 years ago.
