Naia of Hoyo Negro
A girl who fell into a cave the sea later flooded
Some 12,000–13,000 years ago a girl of 15 or 16 fell into a deep pit in a cave on the Yucatán; later the sea rose and flooded it. In 2007 divers found her skeleton among the bones of sabre-toothed cats and giant ground sloths, one of the most complete and genetically intact skeletons of an early American.
