In 1958 Tom Harrisson found a skull in the Great Cave of Niah on Borneo belonging to someone who lived about 40,000 years ago, nicknamed the "Deep Skull". It is among the oldest Homo sapiens remains in Southeast Asia, and the vast cave is still famous for the swiftlet nests harvested there for bird's nest soup.
