Prambanan
Java's great Hindu temple city, a neighbour of Borobudur

Around 850 the rulers of Mataram raised a temple complex on Java dedicated to the Trimurti: Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. The central Shiva temple rises 47 metres, and the reliefs of its galleries retell the Ramayana. Prambanan was badly damaged in the 2006 earthquake and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
