The Primary Chronicle
'Whence came the Rus' land': the chief chronicle of Rus'

Around 1113 the monk Nestor compiled earlier records into a chronicle opening with 'whence came the Rus' land'. It is our source for the calling of the Varangians, Olga's revenge and Vladimir's choice of faith. It survives in later copies, and many of its stories are more legend than fact.
