The reforms of Urukagina in Lagash
The first decree against abuse, and the first word for freedom

In the 24th century BC Urukagina, ruler of Lagash, proclaimed that he was freeing citizens from the exactions of officials and priests and protecting widows and orphans from the powerful. His inscriptions contain the first known use of the word amagi, freedom or release from debt.
