Vandals sack Rome
Two weeks of plunder that gave us the word 'vandalism'

In June 455 Gaiseric's fleet entered the mouth of the Tiber and the Vandals spent two weeks methodically plundering Rome; Pope Leo I persuaded them not to burn the city or kill its people. They carried off the treasures of palaces and temples, along with the widowed empress Eudoxia and her daughters.
