Siege of Dorostolon
Sviatoslav holds out for three months, then leaves the Danube

Prince Sviatoslav, who had conquered Bulgaria, was besieged in Dorostolon by the army and fleet of Emperor John Tzimiskes. After three months of fighting he made peace and agreed to leave the Balkans. On the way home, at the Dnieper rapids, he was killed by the Pechenegs in 972.
