The cave paintings of Sulawesi
The oldest known picture: people and a pig
Limestone caves in southern Sulawesi hold the world's oldest known figurative art: a scene of three small human figures and a warty pig in Leang Karampuang is at least 51,200 years old. That is some 15,000 years older than Chauvet, and nearby are hand stencils and a life-size pig at Leang Tedongnge, painted 45,500 years ago.
