The Talheim Death Pit
34 victims of one of Europe's earliest known massacres

In 1983 a man digging his garden in Talheim turned up human bones; archaeologists then uncovered a pit holding 34 Neolithic farmers, men, women and children. Around 5000 BC they had been killed with axe blows, mostly to the back of the head, apparently in a raid by neighbours.
