Tiberius Gracchus' reform and murder
A tribune's murder opens Rome's century of civil wars

In 133 BC the tribune Tiberius Gracchus passed a law to hand public land occupied by the rich over to poor citizens. Senators and their followers clubbed him to death on the Capitol; historians date the decline of the Roman Republic from this murder.
