Uprising of the Trưng sisters
Two sisters on war elephants defy the Han Empire

In 40 AD the sisters Trưng Trắc and Trưng Nhị rose against the Han governor of Jiaozhi, today's northern Vietnam. Within months the rebels took dozens of towns and Trưng Trắc was proclaimed ruler. In 43 the general Ma Yuan crushed the revolt, but the sisters became the great heroines of Vietnamese history and are still honoured today.
