Capital: Jerusalem (928 BC–586 BC)

The Kingdom of Judah was the southern of the two Israelite kingdoms, formed around 930 BC after the united monarchy of David and Solomon broke up. Its capital was Jerusalem with its Temple, and it was ruled by the House of David over the lands of the tribes of Judah and Benjamin. Judah outlived the northern Kingdom of Israel as a vassal of Assyria, but in 587–586 BC Nebuchadnezzar II took Jerusalem, destroyed the Temple and carried the people into the Babylonian exile.
