Capital: Belgrade

The Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes was the South Slav state proclaimed on 1 December 1918, when Montenegro and the South Slav lands of collapsed Austria-Hungary joined the Kingdom of Serbia. Its capital was Belgrade and its dynasty the Serbian Karađorđević house. The centralist constitution of 1921 sharpened the conflict between Serb and Croat politicians; after the 1928 shooting in parliament King Alexander I imposed a personal dictatorship in January 1929 and in October renamed the country the Kingdom of Yugoslavia.
