Battle of Guandu
Cao Cao defeats Yuan Shao and becomes master of the north

In 200 Cao Cao, who kept the Han emperor in his custody, faced Yuan Shao's much larger army at Guandu on the Yellow River. A night raid on the grain depots at Wuchao decided the battle: Yuan Shao's army broke up, and within a few years Cao Cao held all of northern China.
