The Buyids enter Baghdad
The caliph becomes a figurehead under Shia emirs
Ahmad ibn Buya from the mountains of Daylam, given the title Mu'izz al-Dawla, took Baghdad. The Abbasid caliph kept his throne and religious authority, but real power in Iraq and Iran passed for a century to the Shia Buyid dynasty, until the Seljuks arrived in 1055.
