Caesar's conquest of Gaul
Alesia wins Caesar the loyal army he turns on Rome

In eight years Julius Caesar subdued Gaul, roughly modern France and Belgium; the decisive moment was the siege of Alesia in 52 BC, where Vercingetorix surrendered. The conquest gave Caesar wealth and a loyal army with which he soon seized power in Rome.
