Pompey takes Jerusalem
A Roman general enters the Holy of Holies; Judea falls to Rome

In 63 BC Pompey, having finished the war with Mithridates, intervened in the quarrel of the Hasmonean brothers Hyrcanus II and Aristobulus II and took the Temple Mount after a siege. He entered the Holy of Holies but left its treasures untouched; Judea became a dependency of Rome.
