Georgia adopts Christianity
Tradition credits a captive woman preacher, Saint Nino
King Mirian III of Kartli and his court converted to Christianity, by various estimates between 326 and 337. Tradition links it to the preaching of Saint Nino, who came from Cappadocia. Georgia became one of the world's first Christian states, and a church was founded at Mtskheta on the site of the later Svetitskhoveli Cathedral.
