The founding of Fez
The Idrisids build the city that became the heart of Morocco

Idris I, a descendant of the Prophet who had fled the Abbasids, founded a settlement on the Fez river, and his son Idris II built a new town on the opposite bank in 808–809. Refugees from Córdoba and Kairouan settled there. The Idrisids created Morocco's first Muslim state, and Fez became its religious and scholarly capital for centuries.
