Galen comes to Rome
His teaching will rule medicine for fifteen centuries

Galen, a Greek from Pergamon, began as a physician to gladiators and in 162 moved to Rome, where he later treated Marcus Aurelius and Commodus. Dissecting animals, he showed that arteries carry blood, not air, and found the nerves that control the voice; his works remained the basis of medicine into the 17th century.
