Hadrian's Wall
A 117-kilometre wall cuts Roman Britain off from the north

Hadrian gave up new conquests and fortified the frontiers; in Britain from 122 a wall was built from sea to sea with a small fort at every Roman mile. Twenty years later the Antonine Wall further north briefly replaced it, but the frontier then returned to Hadrian's line.
