Great Buddha of Kamakura
A giant bronze Buddha has sat outdoors for 500 years

Casting of the bronze Buddha, over 13 m tall with its base, began in 1252. Storms wrecked the hall around it several times, and in 1498 a tsunami washed it away; ever since, the Buddha has sat in the open air.
