The Lajia noodles
A 4,000-year-old bowl of noodles

In 2005 thin yellow strands were found in an upturned pot at Lajia on the Yellow River: the oldest known noodles, about 4,000 years old. Mudflows buried the village; since millet alone cannot form noodles, other starches were probably mixed in.
