The tomb of the Lord of Sipán
An untouched Moche royal tomb, full of gold and silver

Around the 3rd century a Moche ruler was buried in the adobe pyramid of Huaca Rajada with attendants, warriors and a wealth of gold, silver and turquoise ornaments. In 1987 the archaeologist Walter Alva found the tomb untouched by looters, one of the major South American finds of the 20th century. The treasures are kept in the Royal Tombs of Sipán Museum.
