Marcomannic Wars
Germanic tribes break into Italy after nearly three centuries

The Marcomanni and Quadi crossed the Danube and in 170 laid siege to Aquileia. Marcus Aurelius spent most of his remaining years on the Danube front, writing part of his Meditations in camp at Carnuntum and among the Quadi, and died at Vindobona or Sirmium in 180 with the war unfinished.
