Daisen Kofun
Japan's largest tomb mound is raised for a Yamato ruler

In the mid-5th century the keyhole-shaped Daisen mound, 486 metres long and ringed by three moats, was raised near today's Osaka; tradition holds it to be the tomb of Emperor Nintoku. Such giant mounds show how far the power of the Yamato rulers had grown in the Kofun period.
