Nader Shah takes the throne of Iran
A general of the Afshar tribe founds a new dynasty
Having driven out the Hotaki Afghans and recovered lands held by the Ottomans and Russia, the general Nader was proclaimed shah at an assembly on the Mughan Plain in 1736, replacing the last Safavids. His campaigns reached Delhi and Bukhara, but after his murder in 1747 the empire broke apart.
