In 732 and 735 stelae were raised in the Orkhon Valley for Prince Kul Tigin and his brother Bilge Khagan. Their Old Turkic runic texts tell of the campaigns and fortunes of the Second Turkic Khaganate. They are the oldest continuous texts in a Turkic language, deciphered by the Dane Vilhelm Thomsen in 1893.
