Charles Martel halts the Arab advance into Western Europe
Frankish forces under Charles Martel halted the army of Abd al-Rahman al-Ghafiqi, governor of al-Andalus, between Tours and Poitiers; the governor fell in battle. It marked the limit of Arab advance into Western Europe and boosted the Carolingians.
